"DELIVERIES FROM EVA" Redefines Love Stories

 INDEPENDENT FILM, MOVIE ON PEACOCK

Renowned screenwriter Jeremy George, co-writer of the hit film Bissonet, had the pleasure of writing “DELIVERIES FROM EVA”. While this independent film leans towards thriller, it surprisingly incorporates elements of comedy. If you’ve seen it, does finding humor in certain scenes make me insane?

The cast was fortunate to be directed by the multi-talented Lakisha R. Lemons of LL Productions, LLC. who also edited this feature. A true gem of this film—often overlooked—is casting director Jantel Hope, whose exceptional talent in selecting the perfect actors for each role deserves recognition. Ian Haywood did a phenomenal job as the Cinematographer capturing framed shots that highlight key moments throughout the feature. Reece Muffet, who shares a name (different spelling) with the main character was first AC.

Now, let’s dive into the details …

Deliveries from Eva follows pop star Reese, played by Callmechoko, who is under house arrest for allegedly causing his girlfriend's death. His lawyer, Alana, portrayed by Sumayyah Ameerah, intercepts a delivery intended for Eva, played by Crystal “The Doll” Hughes. Eva, a devoted fan of Reese, convinces Alana to do her a favor (you'll have to watch to find out), leading to what Eva perceives as a budding “friendship,” while Reese remains friendly without any other intentions.

As Eva becomes increasingly obsessed with Reese, her struggles with PTSD from her time in the army culminate in a psychotic break. It’s exciting to see Crystal push her boundaries, stepping away from her more familiar roles to deliver a captivating performance from start to finish. She embraces this new challenge, showcasing growth and versatility unlike anything I’ve seen from her before. Her portrayal is reminiscent of Kathy Bates in Misery, but with a distinct urban twist.

Detective McNeil, played by Alphonso Settles, investigates Reese in connection to his girlfriend's death and harbors a strong dislike for him. Officer Langston, played by Mickeal Freeland, serves as Reese's probation officer, genuinely trying to keep him out of trouble. Eva’s nosy neighbor, Gail, portrayed by Jordan Paige-Sudduth, is overly invested in Eva’s business, much to Eva’s annoyance.

I LUV’d…

The home or set where this was filmed was stunning and contributed to the illusion of Reese as a wealthy pop star.

The cinematographer captured creatively framed shots that enhanced the visual storytelling. My favorite scene featured Eva by the pool, and oddly enough, another standout was Reese sitting on the couch with candy. The film’s ending left me with my mouth wide open. I definitely did not expect what unfolded.

My Wishes…

I do wish that the lighting wasn't quite as dark in several scenes, which detracted from the overall experience. Additionally, while the story focused on Eva’s obsession, I wish we had more clarity on whether Reese actually killed his girlfriend. While I understand that time is limited, I wish there had been more intensity in the action scenes and maybe a deeper exploration of romance.

Overall, Deliveries from Eva offers a fresh take on nut-case love stories, blending thriller and comedy in an engaging way.

This is a feature I would certainly recommend giving it 3 hearts out of 5, making it a LUV feature on the heart scale.
